Underbidders' Delight: New York Mid-Season Sales
Jordy Kerwick, Le Tigre & Oluwole Olufemi, Invader

Newcomer Jordy Kerwick had a landmark week at auction, more than doubling his number of public sales. Kerwick surpassed his auction record–set just last week–twice, first with an untitled work from 2021 selling for $201,600 in Phillips New Now Auction and then again two days later with Le Tigre, which sold in Sotheby’s Contemporary Curated sale for $277,200 (11 times its low estimate). LiveArt is offering a large 2021 painting by Kerwick for $250,000. Contact us for more information on the work.

Nigerian artist Oluwole Omofemi also had four lots at auction this week, adding substantially to his burgeoning auction presence. Omofemi's 2020 Invader sold for $189,000 in Christie’s Post-War to Present Sale, setting a new record price for the artist at almost 19 times its low estimate. Omofemi also had an impressive result at Sotheby’s Contemporary Curated Sale in which Wingless Angel from 2020 sold for $81,900. LiveArt has a 2021 painting by Omofemi for immediate private sale. You can access that work through LiveArt or contact us for more details on the work.

Senagalese artist Kassou Seydou made his auction debut this week at Sotheby’s Contemporary Curated Sale. Seydou’s 2018 painting Dibou Kenjou Weup (L'anacardier) sold for $50,400, more than five times its low estimate. LiveArt is offering a 2020 painting by Seydou for $45,000.

The Contemporary Curated sale also included a work by Japanese artist Tomoo Gokita who sources and appropriates imagery with a Pop sensibility to create decidedly Surrealist compositions. Gokita’s 2014 painting Playground sold for $88,200. LiveArt is offering a larger 2014 painting by the artist, Regular Girl, for $100,000.

Shaina McCoy saw her second work on the block at Phillips New Now Sale in which Stuntin' Like My Daddy, 2017 sold for $56,700 with a low estimate of $15,000. LiveArt has a 2019 painting by McCoy available for immediate private sale listed at $75,000.

Market-mover Nicolas Party had a wide array of works for sale this week including two sculptures, a work on paper, and a painting that set his third highest price ever at auction at $214,000. LiveArt has a brand new Nicolas Party listing on the platform for which you can request additional information here.

At Phillips Editions & Works on Paper Sale, three works from Damien Hirst’s The Virtues series tripled their low estimates. Politeness (H9-4) sold for $25,200, Mercy (H9-3) sold for $22,680, and Justice (H9-1) sold for $23,940. LiveArt has two works from the series for immediate private sale. Politeness (H9-4) is available for $25,000, and Control (H9-8) is available for $26,000.

In the same sale, a Jeff Koons Puppy Vase sold for $13,860. You can find a work from the same edition for immediate sale on LiveArt.
