About the artist

Arghavan Khosravi

Arghavan Khosravi (born in 1984) is an Iranian artist who melds Persian and Surrealist motifs into her figurative work that explores gender, censorship, and the transitory nature of culture. Her sculptural, mixed-media paintings often feature thread, capturing the attempt to stay connected to a different place along with the disorientation that comes with being split between two worlds and cultures. In her debut solo exhibition at Rachel Uffner Gallery in 2021, Khosravi has stated the works are a visual representation of how she feels being an Iranian woman living in the United States.

Khosravi earned an MFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design after having previously earned an MFA in Illustration from the University of Tehran. She has had recent exhibitions at the Orlando Museum of Art, FL; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Yinchuan, China; and Newport Art Museum, Newport, RI. Her work can be found in the Newport Art Museum and the Rhode Island School of Design Museums.
