About the artist

Mira Dancy

In Mira Dancy’s (born in 1979) large-scale paintings, it is almost always nude women populating the compositions. Carved out with sinuous lines, Dancy’s figures have exaggerated features that pronounce their sex appeal loudly. Presenting her women in such a way, Dancy subverts the archetypical fashion of objectifying women throughout the canon of art history. These neo-expressionist works pull inspiration from Greek mythology to models in advertisements. While nude, her figures are not depicted as passive objects for the viewers’ consumption. Instead they are represented in vivid colors as combative and liberated.

Dancy had her first solo museum exhibition in 2016 at the Yuz Foundation in Shanghai, China entitled “Future Woman.” She has also had solo exhibitions at Night Gallery in Los Angeles, Chapter NY in New York, and Galerie Hussenot in Paris.
