About the artist

Walter Price

Walter Price, born in 1989, is a New-York based artist and painter whose work straddles the border between abstraction and figuration. In his intimately-sized paintings, Price depicts narratives and symbols from his own life along with more widely recognized cultural signs. In this regard, Price’s work blurs the line between collective history and personal memory. While he mainly works in painting, Price also creates works on paper and sculpture, his oeuvre posing questions surrounding identity, personal and social history, and the nature of memory itself, employing a developed skill of abstraction and recurring motifs. Despite being new to the market, with work going on the block starting in 2012, Walter Price’s work has been offered at auction multiple times with realized prices ranging from $15 USD to his auction record $50,400 USD for Moon Lady Vacay - sold at Phillips New York in 2021.

His work has been included in both solo and group exhibitions, including Pearl Lines, The Modern Institute, Glasgow, United Kingdom (2018); Open House, Jessica Silverman Gallery, San Francisco, CA (2018); Hecate, Various Small Fires, Los Angeles, CA (2017); Fictions, The Studio Museum in Harlem, New York (2017). Price’s most recent exhibition, Pearl Lines, was held at Camden Art Centre in 2021, consisting of majority works on paper along with paintings. All conducted during the 2020 global COVID-19 pandemic, the show offers viewers the opportunity to immerse themselves in Price’s visual world.
