About the artist

Davide Balula

Davide Balula, born in 1978, multi-sensorial practice involves various mediums including sound, installation, performance, and painting. Regular collaboration is an integral part to his practice, and he does so with artists, chefs, dancers, and musicians. Balula manipulates natural materials and matters to create his wide-ranging works. From submerging paintings into riverbeds and creeks to placing canvases in climate chambers of extreme temperatures, he often literalizes the goals and processes of his art.

Balula was originally born in Portugal and received both his DNEP and DNSEP in Paris, France. He has had solo exhibitions around Europe and his work is held in the collections of Centre Georges Pompidou; Musée National d’Art Moderne, Paris; Musée d'Art Contemporain du Val–de–Marne, Vitry–sur–Seine, France; Fonds Régional d’Art Contemporain Poitou–Charentes, France; and Fonds Régional d’Art Contemporain Provence–Alpes Côte d’Azur, France.
