About the artist

Thomas Fougeirol

Thomas Fougeirol, born in 1965, is a French painter who manipulates paint and the ways in which it is put down on canvas to explore paint’s materiality. With ripples, ridges, waves, and craters making their way into the paintings, one might expect Fougeirol to be a landscape painter. Despite these topographic elements, Fougeirol is primarily interested in the ways in which paint as a material can be explored and carved out. The weight and pull of gravity plays its necessary role in his works as well, as he slathers and heaps on thick amounts of paint, leaving the results up to gravitational force.

Fougeirol is represented by Praz-Delavallade in Paris and Los Angeles, he lives in between the two cities and runs a non-profit exhibition space, Dust. His work is held in the collections of Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Paris, FR; Fondation Louis Vuitton pour l’art contemporain, FR; Collection Chanel  and The Margulies Collection, Miami, FL.
