Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966) was a Swiss sculptor, printmaker, draftsman, and painter who is most famous for his sculptures of human figures. His life size bronze sculpture titled L'Homme qui marche I is currently featured on the 100 Swiss Franc banknote. Giacometti began incorporating elongated human figures into his sculptural practice following the Second World War. Giacometti’s expressive sculptures began to be associated with existentialism due to an essay by his friend and famous philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre.
