Francis Bacon (1909-1992) was an influential British painter. Born in Dublin, Ireland to English parents, his family briefly lived in London during the First World War. Francis Bacon left Ireland in the late 1920’s due to strained relationships with his family over his homosexuality. He traveled to London, Berlin, and Paris where he experienced the full range of city life from opulence to squalor. Bacon was greatly influenced by an exhibition of drawings by Picasso in 1927.
